Fibre Optic - How to splice using FSM-11 Splicer

Postby Blacky » Thu Apr 23, 2009 10:30 pm

The SpliceMate (FSM-11) is the worlds smallest and most portable fusion splicer, designed to meet the challenges posed by todays fiber networks. Fitting in the palm of your hand, the SpliceMate is smart and reliable enough to be used with confidence by inexperienced operators.

SpliceMates advanced intelligence features include dual-camera fiber inspection to insure the splice is right, and auto arc calibration...an industry first. Its easy to operate and quickly makes low loss splices with all common types of optical fibers up to 4-fiber ribbons. The SpliceMate is available with a variety of powering options including a battery pack and adapters to work with AC or DC power sources.

A workstation, specifically designed for the SpliceMate, is available for simplified splicing in the field. Whether splicing on a pole, in a bucket, or in a neighborhood...SpliceMate is the splicer to have along on the job!

Iv forgot to snap photos iv done about 200 splices, only 18 of them have been sucessful, it takes alot of patience, work even know it is easy.

I haven't done any formal training other than read the book.

I now have a fibre tool kit slowly building with Paint Brush, Compressed air in a can, rubber gloves, Metho, Alco wipes etc cause the slighest spec of dust during Fuse can cause funny messages like "Splice too Fat"

But the longest link iv done is 1.7km MM Fibre using OM1 ill snap some shots on the finalisation of the project. Fibre is easy to run log distances too, we joined the 700m Runs of conduit up, burried a bit every 50 or so meters and just pushed it all the way to the end (2 of us) and I was knee deep in a trench of water lol
