Wow CCNA has changed heaps, i completed the first half the cert via a uni subject and due to international students the program was scrapped, iv never completed the final 2 semesters. But when I did it there was 4 tafe contact hours a week, a written essay and practical assessment, with an exam at the end of each semester.

That's the Cisco Network Academy program. The idea is to teach you the fundamentals in a traditional classroom environment rather then the one week IT courses.

To become CCNA certified, you have to sit the exams through a Pearson Vue accredited test centre.

7 years ago when I was doing it I had access to more hardware than I could poke a stick at. There is great satisfaction in physically plugging the cables into the routers, more so that looking at representations of routers, switches and other boxes.
